PranaSleep’s High-Quality Materials: Talalay Latex

PranaSleep manufactures truly amazing mattresses, and this isn’t by chance. We have put an incredible amount of thought into each detail, from the initial design to the very stitches that craft the bed. Each mattress is made by hand, from experts who truly know the craft. Part of this dedication to the fine details includes, of course, the materials used. One of the materials we are most proud of is our proprietary blend of natural Talalay Latex.

What is Talalay Latex?

Latex is derived from rubber, which naturally flows from rubber trees. Our luxury mattresses feature varying densities of our proprietary blend of Talalay Latex, which serves to provide core and comfort layers with firm, yet supple support. The result is a bed that is uniquely comforting and conforms to your body’s individual curves. Blended with natural rubber, a renewable resource, this type of latex is eco-friendly and extraordinarily durable, with the added benefits of being hypoallergenic, as well as resistant to mold, mildew, and dust mites.

We use this amazing latex in two places: the PranaSleep Performance Talalay Core® and the PranaSleep® Performance Talalay Comfort Layer. The core of a mattress is so very important toward how long it lasts and how happy you are with it. The highest-grade mattress foam available, our PranaSleep Performance Talalay Core® has over three times the amount of natural rubber as ordinary Talalay latex, offering perfect comfort and support. A dreamy level of comforting contour is then created by layering densities of the Performance Talalay latex. It is designed to offer maximum pressure relief and deliver a deeper, more restorative sleep every night. Once you lay down on one, you’ll feel the difference right away.

How is it Different Than Memory Foam?

For many years in the mattress industry, Memory Foam was considered to be the best there was. And since the average mattress lasts around a decade, it is quite possible that Memory Foam was the top-of-the-line last time you purchased a new bed.

Essentially, Talalay Latex and Memory Foam are opposites. While our blend of latex is natural, Memory Foam is man-made. Latex has more elasticity than Memory Foam. When used in a mattress, this means a faster response time and more bounce. When pressure is applied to Memory Foam, the mattress will hug and contour to those pressures. Exactly how quickly the mattress changes to pressure will vary based on the specific type of Memory Foam, but in general, it is going to respond “slower” than latex.

What Other Superior Materials are Used?

Talalay Latex is far from the only top-tier material that is used to handcraft a PranaSleep mattress. Some of our mattresses have a high-density foam inside to offer firm, yet comfortable support. Each collection uses a slightly different blend of materials, while the Om Collection has a core comprised of 100% Talalay Latex, others use a mixture of Talalay and the high-density foam mentioned above, as well as 100% organic cotton and wool. The pairings of these different dynamic materials are what makes are mattresses softer or firmer, and all of them fabulous.

Just like with the food you eat, what goes into making your mattress is a huge factor in the quality of product you eventually purchase. That is why we take pride in using only the best! Otherwise, how could we say our mattresses are the best?
